Union University will mark the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. with a community reading and reflection.

Entitled “Where Do We Go from Here?” the event will take place at 6:01 p.m. outside the Logos.

Frank Anderson, director of Union's Center for Racial Reconciliation, said King's last published book in 1967 was “Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community?”

“At Union University, we have chosen to be a community of Christian faith, love and justice,” Anderson said. “This commemorative event is intended to demonstrate our appreciation for what God has done through the life and work of Dr. King, and it signals our commitment to continue Dr. King's work – to the glory of our Lord.”

The event will feature readings from some of King's books and speeches, led by members of the Union student group MOSAIC.

Prior to the service, at 5 p.m., Union will show a film in Harvey Auditorium in the Barefoot Student Union Building entitled “The Century: Searching for the Promised Land.” This was the eighth segment in a 15-part ABC series produced and narrated by Peter Jennings in 1999.
